Where is Ali in Tibet?

Ali is located in the west of Xizang Autonomous Region. Ali region is the only region in Xizang Autonomous Region, which was called "Toarey Yang" around A.D., "Li Na" in Yuan Dynasty and "Orlis" in Ming Dynasty. Located in the southwest border of China, west of Xizang Autonomous Region and north of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (Qiangtang Plateau).

It borders Hotan area of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in the north, Naqu City in the east and Shigatse City in the southeast, and Nepal, India and Kashmir in the southwest and west. According to the second land survey, the total area of the whole region is 337 174.95 square kilometers, which is the second largest prefecture-level unit in Tibet, second only to Naqu city.
