What is the largest flower germplasm resource bank in Yunnan?

Yunnan has the largest rhododendron germplasm resource bank. There are two rhododendron germplasm resources bases in Yunnan, both of which are built in Yunnan Agricultural University. These two Rhododendron Germplasm Resources Bases bring together nearly 300 Rhododendron varieties in China, accounting for half of all Rhododendron varieties in China, so Yunnan is also called the birthplace and distribution center of Rhododendron.

Rhododendron has a high ornamental value, and is listed as the three largest horticultural plants in the world, the three largest natural flowers in China and the eight famous flowers in Yunnan. There are 1 140 species of rhododendron in the world, including subspecies and varieties, and there are about 600 species in China.

Two rhododendron germplasm resources bases built by Yunnan Agricultural University, with a total area of more than 400 mu, have collected and preserved more than 40 species of Yunnan wild rhododendron resources, most of which are Yunnan wild rhododendrons, including Maying Rhododendron, Dew Rhododendron, Charming Rhododendron, Xing 'an Rhododendron and Blueberry Rhododendron. As well as new varieties of blush and jinyi of Rhododendron alpine, and some unnamed new varieties.

On the basis of collecting wild Rhododendron germplasm resources, the research team of Rhododendron selected 13 new varieties of Yunnan native Rhododendron through cross breeding and local variety breeding, among which 7 new varieties were identified and 2 new varieties were registered by international registration agencies.
