What are the iron and steel industrial bases in China?

Iron and steel base refers to a large-scale iron and steel production place in the whole country or region, or a super-large iron and steel complex, or a place where several iron and steel enterprises coexist (such as Anshan and Panzhihua). As an iron and steel base, there should be reliable ore base and coal (especially coking coal) base for supply, product variety and output should occupy a considerable share in the balance of all products in the country, and product quality, production equipment, technology and management should be at the advanced level in the country.

China's iron and steel industry base is:

1) Abe Steel Base. Including Anshan Iron and Steel Company and Benxi Iron and Steel Company. Located in the central industrial zone of Liaoning, it is rich in surrounding resources, with proven iron ore reserves of nearly10 billion tons, making it the largest iron ore base in China. After more than 40 years of reconstruction and expansion, Aberdeen Steel Base is still the largest steel base in China.

2) Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Iron and Steel Base.

Include Capital Iron and Steel Company, Tianjin Steel Plant and Tangshan Iron and Steel Company. It is one of the important steel bases in China, and the output of main steel products accounts for about 10% of the national total output.

3) Shanghai Iron and Steel Base.

It has three steel-making enterprises, namely Baosteel and Shanghai Steel No.1, No.3 and No.5 Plant, Meishan Metallurgical Company and more than ten rolling mills. At present, the production scale is second only to Abe Steel Base. Baosteel is the first modern large-scale integrated iron and steel enterprise in China with the world advanced level, which is rare among similar enterprises in China.

4) Wuhan Iron and Steel Base.

WISCO, located along the Yangtze River in Qingshan District, Wuchang, is a large-scale steel industrial base newly built in China after 1949 and the largest steel plate production base in China.

5) Pangang base.

Located in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province, it was built during the Third Five-Year Plan period and is the largest steel joint venture in China's strategic rear area. Pan (Panzhihua) West (Xichang) area where Pangang is located is rich in vanadium-titanium magnetite, and its vanadium-titanium reserves rank first in the world.

6) Baotou Iron and Steel Base.

Baotou Steel is located on both sides of Kundulun River in Baotou New District, Inner Mongolia. It is one of the national key construction projects during the first five-year plan period in China, and it was officially put into production during the second five-year plan period. Baotou Steel base is close to iron and coal, and the ore base is in Baiyun Obo. Baotou Iron and Steel Company is not only a large-scale iron and steel complex in China, but also the most important rare earth production base in China. Baotou has a huge rare earth resource mine, which ranks first in the world and has the reputation of "hometown of rare earths".

7) Taiyuan Iron and Steel Base. Taigang, located in Jiancaoping, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, is one of the key expansion and reconstruction projects during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period. TISCO is a special steel production base in China, which mainly produces high-quality plates.

8) Maanshan Iron and Steel Base.

Maanshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. is located in Linjiang River, Maanshan City, East Anhui Province, with convenient transportation and abundant resources. The nearby Ningwu Iron Mine is one of the main iron producing areas in China and an important pig iron base in the south of the Yangtze River.

9) Chongqing Iron and Steel Base.

Including Chongqing Iron and Steel Company and Chongqing Special Steel Plant. Chongqing Iron and Steel Company is located in dadukou district, Chongqing. Its predecessor was the former Hanyang Arsenal, Liuhegou Iron Mine and some equipment of Shanghai Iron and Steel Plant during the Anti-Japanese War.
