Why are there so few pediatricians now?

It's almost graduation time again. Graduate students in rotation in our department often go to job fairs. Every time they come back, I ask them how they are. Is there a suitable place?

Many times, the answer is: I like the place, I don't like it; Where I like, we all like. But several departments have graduate students, and that hospital needs them. There are pediatrics, but there are no graduate students in pediatrics who can apply for the exam. Because there are too few pediatric graduate students, hospitals are scrambling to get them.

It can be seen that all hospitals have pediatricians, but there are few graduate students majoring in pediatrics.

This will happen not only now, but also in the future.

As a doctor, the standard for choosing a major at that time was that we liked it and it was challenging. For example, men like surgery, especially occupations other than brain and heart are all jobs that everyone likes. Women like their major.

Nowadays, people who study medicine choose professional standards with low risk and good income. Men choose breast surgery, urology and so on. Women choose oncology and endocrinology.

But as a pediatrician, the income is not good and the risk is still great.

Generally, the income of pediatricians is not high, because the dosage of pediatric patients is small, there are many restrictions, and the income of departments is small, so the income is naturally small under the current system linked to benefits. However, the risks are great. Pediatric patients are more complicated and pay more attention to medication. At the same time, every family's children are treasures, and they often do things without saying a word. Doctors are under great pressure and high risk.

These are indisputable facts. Nowadays, students are realistic, and fewer and fewer people choose pediatrics. Old doctors retire, but new doctors don't. Naturally, it is getting less and less.

If the medical environment can't be improved, especially the income of pediatricians, this phenomenon of fewer pediatricians can't be changed.
