The Origin of Zhenhai Military Port Festival

Zhenhai Military Port Festival was originally a celebration to commemorate the completion of 1953 Zhenhai General Li Shunchen bronze statue.

In the past Japanese occupation, many Japanese soldiers were stationed in Zhenhai, a military town. As a symbol of Japan, cherry blossoms are widely planted in Zhenhai to alleviate homesickness. After liberation, oppressed Koreans remembered this history when they saw cherry blossoms, and many cherry trees were cut down again.

However, in the 1960s, it was discovered that Yoshino cherry blossoms, once full of Zhenhai, actually originated in Jeju Island. This kind of cherry blossom is called "Big Cherry Blossom".

External transportation: How to get to Zhenhai?
