Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology is one of the construction units of high-level universities of science and engineering in Guangdong Province. It is a public undergraduate college founded by Guangdong Provincial People's Government, China Petrochemical Group, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group and China Offshore Oil Corporation. It is the only petrochemical university with characteristics in South China, the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of pilot universities for the transformation of ordinary undergraduate courses in Guangdong Province.

College 1954 was founded in Shipai, Guangzhou, and was renamed Guangdong Institute of Petrochemical Technology in July [1] 1992.
