Beef variety is the foundation of beef cattle industry development. Since the early 1970s, China authorities have introduced 22 beef cattle breeds and dual-purpose beef and milk breeds, all of which are famous beef cattle breeds in the modern world. There are mainly British Hereford Cattle, Lincoln Cattle, Shorthorn Cattle and Angus Cattle, French Charolais Cattle, Limousin Cattle, Mon beria Cattle (branch of Simmental Cattle, dairy breed), Italian Piermont Cattle and Chianina Cattle, American Brahman Cattle and Saint Groudi Cattle, Belgian Blue and White Cattle, Swiss Simmental Cattle (meat and milk breed) and Brown Cattle (brown cattle). Dutch black-and-white cattle (commonly known as small Holland with milk and meat) showed good adaptability and production performance when crossing with China yellow cattle. These imported breeds have played an important role in improving China yellow cattle and developing beef cattle industry.
