What is a "full-time undergraduate pilot class"

The name "undergraduate pilot class" began in 1998. At that time, the Ministry of Education considered that despite the repeated expansion of enrollment in colleges and universities, there were still a large number of students every year. Due to various reasons, a small number of students cannot meet the admission score of colleges and universities or reach the self-financed limit and cannot afford expensive sponsorship fees, thus losing the opportunity to receive higher education. Therefore, a regulation was introduced to allow a few key universities directly under the Ministry of Education in some provinces and cities to transfer part of their education to higher education. Students whose scores are lower than the admission score of colleges and universities are recruited to the school and receive the same training as regular undergraduates. After four years of study, students who pass the examinations in each subject will also be issued an undergraduate diploma. This schooling format is the same as that of regular undergraduates on a full-time basis. It is a full-time undergraduate student-assisted pilot class, or “undergraduate pilot class” for short.
