I want to work in the library, how can I achieve it?
As a university librarian who joined in July this year, I went through a series of complete processes such as job selection, registration, written examination, interview, and physical examination in the first half of the year. Now I am also a member of the staff. I would like to share my journey and experience in applying for a job, hoping to help you who are confused, looking for a job or want to change jobs. The dilemma of finding a job in an unpopular liberal arts major
First of all, let me introduce my background. I majored in liberal arts for my undergraduate degree in 985, and my master's degree in library and information from a QS top 10 school. Some of the undergraduate courses are related to library and information, and the master's degree is a small change of major, but generally they are in the liberal arts category. Liberal arts + cold environment + female gender are a combination full of debuffs. All the positions in good units such as the state-owned enterprise Tobacco Power Grid have been wiped out, and they can't even pass the resume test. Until the end of autumn recruitment, I only had one offer from a bank. Because I invested in the bank overseas, I didn’t know about this industry before. I learned about it after I got the offer. I found that not only did I have to sit in the counter, but I also had a heavy marketing task. In the future, I had to post marketing advertisements among relatives and friends. This is The work content and pressure were unacceptable to me, so I fell into self-doubt and confusion and anxiety. After escaping from the bank, I got involved in the road of examination for editing
With the belief of escaping from the bank, I embarked on the road of examination for examination for editing. This is the beginning of another journey. First of all, due to professional restrictions, there are very few positions to choose from. There are no positions in the target provinces in the national examination. There is only one suitable position in the provincial examination. The application ratio is astonishing. The hope of landing a job was slim; then I turned my attention to public institutions and checked the recruitment information published by the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security once a day. Finally, I found the position I am currently working in - a provincial public service librarian. This position The competition was more intense than I expected. With 400 postgraduate students majoring in graphics and graphics, the pressure soared. After the registration review, I started studying non-stop, collecting real questions and question banks for recruitment in libraries from various places, and at the same time learning the basic knowledge of public institution examinations. There was a lot to learn. Fortunately, the exam was postponed due to well-known reasons, which gave me two months of study time. In the end, I ranked first in the written exam and tied for first in the written exam. The library is not necessarily a paradise, but life at WLB is definitely.
The days after joining the company are calm and rhythmic. The working hours are 8:00-11:30, 14:00-16:30, and weekends are open. Working overtime, every winter and summer vacation adds up to three months, which gives me enough time to do what I like. Regarding the work content, my position is the editing position. Simply put, I contact publishers and book companies, compile the book purchase list for the new school year, and catalog the books. I mainly deal with books and computers. Although the work content is a bit boring, I am a book lover. Not only can I have the freedom to read, but I can also add books that I am interested in to my shopping list. This kind of happiness makes me satisfied. The working atmosphere is pretty good. The colleagues around me are of high quality and Buddhist-like (after all, I work in a library hh). They are generally ten or twenty years older than me. They take good care of me as a newcomer, and the office can be described as a happy place.
The income part that everyone is most concerned about is that the salary in each university is different, but generally it is the benchmark of public institutions. My income plus provident fund and year-end performance is almost hundreds of thousands. Of course, I have the shortest length of service, the youngest seniority, and no professional title. I will gradually increase my salary in the future, but the increase will be very slow. Generally speaking, this income can support myself. After all, my material desires are not high, and I am very content. I can have the sense of security brought by having a job in the cold winter.

The bicycle at the entrance of the library should not beautify a road you have not traveled
Maybe after reading this, you will have some ideas about the work of librarians. Some yearning, you think this is your dream job, so is it necessary to skip the exam or apply for the library and information major in order to enter the library?
My conclusion is to be cautious.
Although library and information science is the counterpart major of library work, there are two problems. First of all, the employment scope of library and information is very narrow. There are very few positions in state-owned enterprises, and you can hardly apply for any positions in the national and provincial examinations. In industries such as the Internet and FMCG, it depends on personal ability and the bonus of a good school. There is almost no job in the graphics major. Added value; secondly, professional libraries and information research institutes have increasingly higher requirements for academic qualifications. University libraries and information research institutes for establishments mostly recruit doctoral graduates, and their majors tend to be computer science and engineering rather than computer science. A single library and information major.
Therefore, if you want to enter a library, computer majors not only have a wider range of employment opportunities, but also have opportunities to enter libraries. If you want to improve your academic qualifications and go to a better school for graduate school, the library and information major may be very cost-effective for the postgraduate entrance examination. I think it is okay to apply for this major in order to get a good school; finally, if you really like this field, then I You are very welcome to join the Tuqing family. I want to find books that every reader likes.
In short, I cherish my current work and life status. The goal for the future is to conscientiously perform job responsibilities, do everything well, and make students fall in love with reading. Let every reader find their favorite book, find the right reader for each book, and continue to shine in the library industry.
The above is my simple sharing, I hope it will be helpful to you.
