The Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court was established in November 1949 The court currently has more than 500 police officers on staff. It is one of the intermediate courts with the longest history and the largest number of police officers in the country. Since the reform and opening up, the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court has seized the historical development opportunities, forged ahead with determination, and administered justice impartially, providing strong judicial guarantee and excellent judicial services for Guangzhou's economic construction and social development.

1. Main Responsibilities

This court is a national judicial organ. It independently exercises judicial power in accordance with the law, supervises and guides the judicial work of lower courts, and accepts the supervision and guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Higher People’s Court. , responsible for and reporting to the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress and its Standing Committee. The main responsibilities are:

(1) Trial first-instance cases such as criminal, civil, and administrative cases that are designated by the Guangdong Provincial Higher People’s Court to be under the jurisdiction of this court and that this court believes should be tried by this court in accordance with the law.

(2) Trial appeal cases and protest cases against judgments and rulings of basic people's courts as stipulated by law.

(3) Review and handle various appeals and retrial cases that are dissatisfied with the judgments and rulings of this court and lower courts, and try cases filed for retrial in accordance with trial supervision procedures.

(4) Trial protest cases filed by the Guangdong Provincial People’s Procuratorate and the Guangzhou Municipal Procuratorate in accordance with trial supervision procedures.

(5) Review cases involving applications for recognition of judgments and rulings of foreign courts and applications for the revocation or recognition of awards by international arbitration institutions.

(6) Designate jurisdiction over cases where the jurisdiction of lower courts is unclear.

(7) Supervise and guide the trial work of the city's grassroots people's courts; manage and coordinate the execution work of the city's courts.

(8) Exercise judicial execution power and judicial decision-making power in accordance with the law; decide on state compensation in accordance with the law.

(9) Provide opinions on relevant draft laws, regulations, and rules; provide judicial suggestions on issues discovered during case trials.

(10) Responsible for the ideological and political, education and training work of the city's courts; manage judges and other personnel in accordance with cadre management authority; assist in managing the institutional establishment of the city's courts; responsible for the disciplinary inspection and supervision of the city's courts.

(11) Manage the relevant funds and materials and equipment of the city’s courts.

(12) Promote the legal system in conjunction with trial work, and educate citizens to consciously abide by the Constitution and laws.

(13) Undertake other tasks that should be the responsibility of this hospital.
