What is the working principle of WEDM?

The basic working principle of WEDM is to use the thin metal wire (called WEDM electrode wire) which is constantly moving as an electrode to carry out pulse spark discharge, remove metal and cut the workpiece into shape. WEDM is mainly used to process all kinds of complicated and precise workpieces, such as punches, dies, punches, fixed plates and discharging plates of blanking dies, forming tools, templates and WEDM. It can also process all kinds of tiny holes, grooves and arbitrary curves. WEDM has many incomparable advantages, such as small machining allowance, high machining accuracy, short production cycle and low manufacturing cost. WEDM can operate normally and must meet the following conditions:

1. A certain gap must be kept between the molybdenum wire and the machined surface of the workpiece, and the width of the gap depends on the machining conditions such as working voltage and machining capacity.

2.WEDM processing must be carried out in a liquid medium with certain insulating properties, such as kerosene, saponified oil and deionized water. It is required to teach high insulation in order to generate pulsed spark discharge, and the liquid medium also has the function of removing corrosion products in the gap and cooling the electrode. There is a certain gap between the molybdenum wire and the machined surface of the workpiece. If the gap is too large, the inter-electrode voltage cannot break through the inter-electrode medium, so the electric spark discharge cannot occur. If the gap is too small, it is easy to form short circuit connection, and it is impossible to produce electric spark discharge.

3. Pulse power supply must be adopted, that is, spark discharge must be pulsed and intermittent. During the pulse interval, the gap medium is ionized so that the next pulse can be broken down and discharged between the two electrodes.
