Where do Suzhou jade carvings come from?

Suzhou is one of the cradles of jade carving in China. Five or six thousand years ago, the polished jade yellow and jade symbol were found in the middle and upper layers of Wujiang ancient cultural site in Caoxie Mountain, Wuxian County, which is the earliest jade found in China so far.

In the history of Suzhou, there are many skilled craftsmen. In the Ming Dynasty, He Si, Liu Gu, Lu Zigang and others carved exquisite sketches with white jade, amber, crystal and agate, enjoying a good reputation in the north and south. Suzhou jade carving is exquisite in craftsmanship and has the artistic characteristics of being empty, floating and thin. Works are divided into two categories: plane and three-dimensional, mostly because of material design, based on the artistry of materials, vivid modeling, fine craftsmanship and elegance. Although there is a kind of crystal-clear and moist beauty in the world, it is inevitable that there are flaws. The jade master is ingenious, or cuts it into birds on flowers or mice on pine trees, turning defects into beauty. At present, the products of Suzhou Jade Carving Factory are mainly artistic appreciation, and some products combine practicality. The main handicrafts are antique furnace bottles, figures, flowers, birds and animals, jewelry and jade articles.
