On November 25, 2014, the feasibility study report of the second phase expansion project of Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. The project targets 89,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings per year, 36 takeoffs and landings during peak hours, and a passenger throughput of 4,600 passengers during peak hours, meeting the target design of 10 million passengers and 100,000 tons of cargo and mail throughput in 2020. The total investment 1.52322 billion yuan, including 1.4885 billion yuan for the airport project. After the expansion, the airport flight area level will be 4E. The main construction contents include: extending the existing runway and parallel taxiway from 400 meters to 4,000 meters southward, building 6 new vertical connecting roads; building a new 60,000-square-meter T2 terminal, a 14,900-square-meter viaduct, and partially renovating old airlines. Station building; newly built 4,240 square meters of freight buildings and 6,300 square meters of supporting buildings; supporting facilities such as navigation lighting, power supply, communications, water supply, heating, cooling, rainwater, sewage and sewage treatment, fire rescue and other supporting facilities.

Update an 8-channel antenna system, build a 3,985-square-meter air traffic control dormitory, relocate the field's omnidirectional beacon/rangefinder station and update related equipment, and build supporting meteorological and air traffic control facilities. Lay 1,000 meters of apron pipelines, install 12 sets of refueling hydrants, and expand aviation gas stations.

The T1 terminal is located in the center of the west side of the runway, with a construction area of ??approximately 27,500 square meters, of which the international hall area is approximately 4,000 square meters.
