History of Tseung Kwan O New Town

From 65438 to 0982, the Hong Kong Government officially implemented the development of Tseung Kwan O into a third-generation new town, and the development plan was carried out in three phases. In short, the first phase of development began at 1983, covering three residential areas in Cui Lin, Lin Bao and Kengkou, and two industrial development zones in Xiaochisha and Dachisha.

Cui Lin mainly has Cui Lin Village and Kang Sheng Garden. Cuilin was completed and occupied in 1988. It is one of the earliest public housing estates in Tseung Kwan O and the only public housing estate in Tseung Kwan O New Town that has not been developed in the reclamation area.

Lin Bao was mainly reclaimed from the harbour outside Tseung Kwan O Village. There are Lin Bao Village, Lin Jing Village, Xinmingyuan, Hui 'an Garden, Fuli Garden, Yi Yin Garden, Diecuixuan, Xindu City and so on. Lin Bao Village settled in 1988, which is another earliest residential area in this area.

Most of the land in Kengkou is also reclaimed from the sea. There are Youning Garden, Anning Garden, Houde Village, Songming Garden, Mingde Village, Dongdian City, Quiet Garden, Nanfeng Square and Xinbaocheng in the area. Funing Garden and Anning Garden were completed on 1990, which are the earliest houses built in this area. As for taiji sand and xiaoji sand, they are still under development. Projects under development and developed include a football field, a sewage treatment plant, a MTR Tseung Kwan O depot and its superstructure, Rising Sun Kangcheng.

The second phase of development started at 1987. The main purpose of this stage of planning is to develop the urban area of Tseung Kwan O. Most of the land in this area was reclaimed from the sea in the northeast of Tiaojingling, mainly including Suntech Village, Tang Ming Garden, Fukang Garden, Baoying Garden and Qingshuiwan Peninsula. 1998 Suntech House is one of the largest public housing estates in the area and the earliest one built in the area.

The third phase of development is planned to be launched on 199 1. The main development areas in this area are the south of Tseung Kwan O downtown, Tiu King Ling and Tai Chi Sha. Major development projects include Tseung Kwan O industry, pier, waterfront open space, typhoon shelter, Choi Ming Court and Victoria Park.

During the development of Po Lam and Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O was planned as a new town, so there are many cycle tracks and recreational facilities in the area. However, as the newly reclaimed land in the area has been developed, in order to prevent residents from relying too much on Sheung Wan, Ap Lei Chau, Causeway Bay, Taikoo and Kwun Tong on Hong Kong Island, the Government changed its planning and re-planned the whole Tseung Kwan O area according to the urban model. At present, many citizens think that the design of this area is quite strange, and all districts seem to be cut off and the connection is inconvenient. These are all the effects of planning changes, and some people think that they are caused by various political goals after the reunification (such as the 85,000 housing construction plan).

At present, the largest private housing estate in Tseung Kwan O is Xinducheng, which will be built in three phases, with a total of 265,438+0 buildings. The occupied private housing estates with the highest average property price include Blue Bay, Metropark Bay and Juno Bay. The sports ground on Baokang Road near Tseung Kwan O Plaza was officially opened in 2009.
