Hunan University of Chinese Medicine is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province, covering an area of 1, 0 19 mu. It is a key undergraduate college in Hunan Province and the first university to recruit doctoral students, international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

It has been selected as a national key discipline project construction university, a national postgraduate project construction high-level university, a national "excellent doctor (Chinese medicine) education and training plan" reform pilot university, and a "domestic first-class construction university" in Hunan Province.

The school was founded in 1934, then named Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 1960 was transformed into Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, an ordinary undergraduate college. 1979 became the first institution in China to obtain the qualification of postgraduate education in traditional Chinese medicine. 1990 The former Hunan University of Science and Technology was merged into Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
