Why is Rugao so rich?

Rugao, located at the T-junction of the Yangtze River and the Yellow Sea, is close to the international metropolis Shanghai and faces Zhangjiagang across the river. She is the earliest ancient town in the Yangtze River Delta, the largest county in the country during the Republic of China, the first batch of coastal cities open to the outside world, and the top 50 competitive counties in the country.

As we all know, the Yangtze River Delta, with Shanghai as its center and Jiangsu and Zhejiang as its wings, has become the most developed economic zone at the intersection of the rivers and seas in eastern China, the sixth largest urban agglomeration in the world, and the economic highlight of China after the Pearl River Delta. Jiangsu, located in the northern wing of the Yangtze River Delta, has vigorously implemented the development strategy along the Yangtze River since last year. This 800-mile-long river is regarded by experts as the largest manufacturing base in the world in the future. Rugao, as one of the key counties (cities) along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu 15, occupies an important position along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu and even the Yangtze River Delta with its unique resource advantages.

Rugao city has a coastline of 48 kilometers along the river, of which the deep-water coastline is 17.2 kilometers long, more than 30 10,000-ton wharves can be built, and the 50,000-ton "Three Supermarkets" can be navigable. This is a very valuable shoreline resource that needs to be developed along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, and it is also a unique logistics hub in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. There are tens of thousands of mu of beaches and state-owned land along the Yangtze River, with few residents in the area and relatively low development cost. Rugao took the lead in issuing the master plan for the development along the Yangtze River in the whole province, positioning the industries along the Yangtze River as ten economic sectors with petrochemical industry, shipbuilding and advanced stainless steel smelting as the leading industries, fine chemical industry and electromechanical processing as the supporting industries, and logistics warehousing, high technology, bioengineering, eco-tourism and modern agriculture as the supporting industries.
