Jilin Normal University is the original Siping Normal University.

Historical evolution:

Jilin Normal University was founded on September 15, 1958, when it was named Siping Normal College. At the beginning of its establishment, the school had only 29 faculty and staff and 285 students, divided into four majors: Chinese, Mathematics, Geoscience, and Political History. The school did not have its own school building, so it borrowed the second floor of Siping No. 1 Middle School West Building (student dormitory) as its school building and started its own school. ?

In 1960, Siping Normal College began to recruit the first batch of 129 four-year undergraduate students. In September of the same year, the school building was moved from the second floor of the West Building of Siping No. 1 Middle School to the new school site (formerly the office building of the Siping Special Administrative Office), ending the history of borrowing land to run the school. In October, Siping Normal School moved back to Siping from Gongzhuling and merged into Siping Normal College. The school has 1,070 students and 184 teaching staff.

From 1962 to 1966, the Jilin Provincial Government merged Tonghua Normal College, Baicheng Normal College, and Jilin Normal College into Siping Normal College, and the school was named Siping Normal College.

In 1966, the total number of students reached 1,228, the total number of faculty and staff reached 393, covering an area of ??1,500 acres, and the school was divided into east and west schools.

In 1973, with the approval of superiors, Siping Normal College was upgraded to Siping Normal College.

In 1979, the college began to recruit master's degree students.

In 1984, the college established a foreign affairs office to expand the college’s external exchanges. Internationally, we have established inter-school cooperative relationships with universities in the United States, Russia, Japan, Australia, Ukraine, South Korea and other countries. ?

In 1985, all departments of the school moved to the West Campus, ending the 20-year-old structure of running schools in the East and West.

In 1998, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Siping Normal University was added as a master's degree-granting unit.

On March 21, 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Siping Normal College was renamed Jilin Normal University.

On December 1, 2004, the school was designated as a key university in Jilin Province by the provincial government.

On April 3, 2006, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education to undertake the "Chinese Government Scholarship International Students Training Project in China", and it was also the first project institution among colleges and universities in Jilin Province.

In September 2008, Jilin Normal University celebrated its 50th anniversary.

In March 2011, the four subject areas of Jilin Normal University’s Master of Education were approved: subject teaching (physical education), subject education (ideology and politics), subject teaching (chemistry), and subject teaching (geography).

In December 2016, Jilin Normal University signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement with the People's Government of Dongliao County.
