In 2000, the total amount of aquatic products was 579,000 tons, ranking first in Fujian Province for 22 consecutive years and second at the county level in China.

In 2000, Lianjiang County was awarded the title of "China (Fuzhou) Food Industrial Park" by China Food Industry Association. The park has achieved "three links and one leveling" 1000 mu, and 37 domestic and foreign food enterprises have settled in the park, which has begun to take shape and promoted the development of marine economy in Lianjiang County.

Seafood Factory and Guanwu Ocean Development Co., Ltd. are listed as leading enterprises of agricultural industrialization in the province, with an annual processing capacity of170,000 tons and an output value of1400 million yuan. The aquatic product processing industry has developed vigorously, forming a multi-level aquatic product processing system such as frozen preservation, cooked food, convenience food, health food, canned food and feed processing. The main products are dozens of processed products such as kelp knots, kelp rolls, fish balls, fish noodles, frozen eel slices, octopus balls, shrimps, shrimp skins, etc. Among them, kelp production accounts for 2/3 of the national sales and is sold to large and medium-sized cities in China, as well as the United States, Japan and South Korea.
