Dahuoquan Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall

Guo Shoujing, a native of Xingtai, Hebei Province, was an outstanding expert in astronomy, water conservancy, mathematics and instrument manufacturing in China in Yuan Dynasty. More than 20 scientific and technological achievements in his life are far ahead of the world level and have made great contributions to the development of human science. In 1970s, the international astronomical organization named a crater on the back of the moon and an asteroid numbered 20 12 in space after Guo Shoujing. 1984 In order to commemorate the sages and enlighten future generations, Xingtai City built the Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall.

Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall is located in the scenic Dahuoquan Park in Xingtai City, Hebei Province, covering an area of 50,000 square meters and a building area of 4,700 square meters. At present, there are mainly Guo Shoujing bronze statue, stargazing platform, four exhibition halls, astronomical observatory, youth science popularization activity room and other facilities and attractions to show Guo Shoujing's life and achievements. The exhibition is divided into four parts: superstar shining in China, monument to water control trees, extraordinary achievements in astronomy and great achievements in the future, with more than 300 exhibits. Among them, Guo Shoujing created or used simple instruments, armillary sphere, equatorial sundial and other large instruments. There are sand tables and scenes that reflect the achievements of water conservancy projects such as Guo Shoujing Sky Survey, Xingzhou Water Conservancy Project, Dadu River Water Conservancy Project and Aerospace Plaza. The main line of the whole exhibition is to highlight Guo Shoujing's outstanding contribution to the development of human science in astronomy and water conservancy. Through a large number of historical documents and cultural relics, the exhibition vividly shows Guo Shoujing's glorious life by using various artistic forms such as sound, light and electricity. The main building of Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall is a garden-style building in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The whole museum area has an elegant environment and pleasant scenery, which makes people feel relaxed and happy after visiting.

Xingtai Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall has now become a national Guo Shoujing research center. With its magnificent architecture, novel display, elegant environment and outstanding achievements, it has been named as the national popular science education base by China Association for Science and Technology, and the national youth science and technology education base by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, Ministry of Education and China Association for Science and Technology. On June 20, 2005, the scenic Dahuoquan Park in Xingtai City was opened to the general public free of charge. This is the first time that Xingtai City has opened the park to tourists free of charge, and it also marks the end of the 28-year ticket sales history of Dahuoquan Park.

Dahuoquan Park is one of the most important leisure places for Xingtai residents. In Qing dynasty, it was called "one of the eight scenic spots in Xingtai", and the park was opened to the public on 1977.

In order to improve the grade and quality of the park, Xingtai City invested more than 60 million yuan in large-scale renovation in 2004. The transformed park highlights the two themes of spring water culture and Guo Shoujing science and technology culture, forming characteristic landscapes and activity areas such as spring water culture, history and culture, green interesting gardens, leisure and entertainment, water sports and folk culture, covering an area of nearly 1,000 mu, with 37,000 plants planted, lawn of 232,000 square meters, architectural attractions of 30,000 square meters and water surface of 60,000 square meters.

Since 2008, the city garden department has upgraded Dahuoquan Park, demolished 440 shops and more than 80 villas around it, and all the demolished 90,000 square meters of open space was used for greening. After the renovation, the park has a total area of 669,000 square meters, making it the largest park in the urban area of Hebei Province.

The person in charge of Xingtai Urban Management Bureau said that with the free opening of the park, the problem of man-made destruction of park facilities will also increase. Therefore, they will take effective measures to strengthen the maintenance of green space and facilities, strengthen the sanitation and cleaning of parks, and create a good leisure environment for citizens.
