Hebei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, a pilot university for the reform of the education and training plan for outstanding doctors (Chinese medicine) of the Ministry of Education, a "5+3" integrated training institution for Chinese medicine majors, a key university in Hebei Province, a "double-class" construction university in Hebei Province, and a demonstration university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in Hebei Province.

Doctoral degree awarding units have the qualification to recommend outstanding fresh graduates to pursue postgraduate studies without examination. The school's predecessor was Hebei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1956. 1958 was named Hebei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine; 1962 merged with Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine affiliated to Hebei Province. From 65438 to 0969, Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine moved to Shijiazhuang and merged with Hebei Medical College to form Hebei New Medical University.
