China Aviation Industry Corporation Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute (hereinafter referred to as AVIC Shenyang Institute) was established on August 3rd, 196 1. It is the earliest aircraft design research institute established in New China, mainly engaged in the design and development of fighter planes and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as the pre-research of aviation frontier technology, providing high-end weapons and equipment for the air force and navy. Three series of more than 30 fighters developed by 60 1 have been equipped with air force naval forces in batches as the main models. 60 1 undertakes nearly 50 aviation pre-research topics such as active control technology, composite material application, advanced aerodynamic layout, stealth technology, overall integrated design of aircraft and thrust vector. It has won more than 500 scientific and technological achievements at the provincial and ministerial levels, leading the development of aviation technology industry, and is known as the "fighter design and research base".

60 1 has 55 professional fields such as aircraft aerodynamics, structural strength, flight control, electromechanical system, avionics, aircraft support, unmanned aerial vehicle, and aviation product research and development. It has 25 professional laboratories, including flight control, fuel system, integrated electronic fire control, electromagnetic compatibility of the whole aircraft and stealth, which can carry out various physical tests, simulation tests, demonstration verification and analysis. The application system of aircraft digital design, engineering analysis, model management and collaborative office is constructed, and the digital three-dimensional design of the whole aircraft is realized. It is the responsible unit of digital engineering of national defense aircraft manufacturing industry.

60 1 Institute is also a postgraduate enrollment and training unit with a postdoctoral workstation. It is a national demonstration base for learning organizations and has trained a large number of national aviation experts, outstanding technical leaders and senior management talents represented by five academicians. More than 70 experts enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council and are known as the "cradle of aviation talents".
