Zhang Ye's Historical Story

Zhangye, also known as Ganzhou, was a county in the Western Han Dynasty. Located in the middle of Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, Zhangye is an important post town that entered Hexi Corridor on the ancient Silk Road. It is the focus of economic and cultural exchanges and friendly exchanges between the Central Plains and countries in West Asia and Eastern Europe. Zhangye has a long history, splendid map culture, beautiful mountains and rivers, simple folk customs and rich aquatic plants, and is known as "Jiangnan Frontier" and "Golden Zhangye". It has a history of more than 2000 years.

According to the Neolithic stone axes and other cultural relics unearthed from Heishuiguo site in the city, as early as ancient times, human beings lived a hunting and nomadic life here. Zhangye belonged to Yongzhou in ancient times, and Qiang people lived in Xia and Shang Dynasties. During the Zhou Dynasty, Rong and Di lived here, and during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Wusun, Yueshi and other nationalities flourished here. During the Warring States period, cities were established and the Great Wall was built. Today, there are still Qin Changcheng ruins in Zhangye area.

After Wusun was driven away by the Yue family and fled to Yili, Xinjiang, Zhang Ye belonged to the Yue family and controlled 120,000 strings. Yue's capital (now folk music) and Zhaowucheng (now Linze County) are both central cities on both sides of the Heihe River where Yue lives.

In the first four years of Emperor Wendi's reign (6 BC), Huns with hundreds of thousands of Qiang Bing were defeated by Khan. Zhangye became the territory of the right-wing king of Xiongnu. After the Huns occupied, they plundered continuously, which destroyed the friendly exchanges between Hungary and China and cut off the long-standing ties between the Han Dynasty and the Western Regions. In BC 12 1 year, Huo Qubing was sent by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty to conquer the Xiongnu, and later set up Zhangye County, which was named after the meaning of "breaking the Xiongnu's arm and covering China".

Zhangye is one of the four ancient Hexi counties (Dunhuang, Jiuquan, Zhangye and Wuwei) and the center of political, economic, cultural and diplomatic activities of the Central Plains Dynasty in the northwest. Zhangye was once the capital of Beiliang, the capital of the Ministry of Tourism, the capital of Gansu, and the seat of the state capitals of past dynasties, and was known as the "lock on the key". Hamming Great Wall, grottoes, temples, pagodas, ancient cities, beacon tunnels and tombs are all over the city. Dayu drew weak water into the stand, Lao Tzu rode a green ox into quicksand, and Zhou Muwang led eight horses to visit the Queen Mother of the West. Zhang Qian, Ban Chao, Faxian and others all went to the Western Regions through Zhangye. In 609, Yang Di convened envoys from 27 countries in the western regions to hold the "World Expo" in Zhangye. Tang Xuanzang went to the Western Heaven to learn Buddhist scriptures, and Kyle Polo lived in Zhangye for a year. The Horseshoe Temple and Jinta Temple, which were built in Wei and Jin Dynasties, have preserved sculptures and murals and have high cultural value.
