Francis Hodgson Burnett (1849 ~ 1924), a world-renowned writer of children's literature in English, was born in Manchester, England, spent his childhood in England, and immigrated to Tennessee with his family in 1865. Burnett's father died young when she was 4 years old, and her family was poor. From then on, she and her mother lived alone and went through hardships to arrive in the United States. Her mother later married an American, and her family moved to the United States, when she was 16 years old. She loved literature since she was a child and liked novels by Dickens and Thackeray. After arriving in America, she began to publish stories in magazines to supplement her family. In order to have money to buy paper and stamps, she even picked wild grapes and sold them herself. However, it is her children's literature that makes Burnett famous all over the world. 1886, she published the novel "Little Master fauntroy", which tells the story of an American boy who became the heir to the British Earl. Since then, "fauntroy" has become an English vocabulary, meaning "children who are overdressed". This book made Burnett one of the best-selling and richest pop writers at that time. This book and The Little Princess published by 1905 have been adapted into plays. 1909, when she arranged her own garden in Long Island, new york, she had a sudden inspiration and conceived a secret garden. The first edition of this novel was published in 19 1 1, which was a best seller in her two countries-Britain and the United States, and became her most famous and successful work. Representative works include Young Master, The Secret Garden's Little Princess and so on, all of which were all the rage, published dozens of versions, and were adapted into movies and TV series for many times. For more than half a century, her works have been essential literary reading materials for children in British and American families. In almost all of Francis Hodgson Burnett's books, there is a beautiful and kind atmosphere from beginning to end, which exudes the brilliance of human nature.
