Does anyone know whose descendant is Poseidon Mazu?

Since the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, there have been many sacrificial buildings with the names of Tianhou Palace and Tian Fei Temple in all rivers and seas. A dignified and kind goddess, commonly known as "Mazu" or "Goddess of the Sea", enjoys the incense of the masses of believers. According to experts' research, Mazu was originally a folk belief in Putian and Xianyou, Fujian Province, and then it gradually became a national orthodox god because of the continuous granting of feudal governments in past dynasties. The popular belief in Mazu can not only protect the safety of those who sail across the river and the sea, but also have many magical powers such as eliminating disasters, relieving Eritrea and blessing children. With the development of folk trade and immigration activities in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Mazu belief also spread to more distant places overseas and was admired by overseas Chinese all over the world. On the ninth day of September in the summer calendar in 1987 (October 31st in the Gregorian calendar), the gathering gathered as many as 1, compatriots from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Meizhou Island and Mazu Tempel, overseas Chinese and believers from all over the mainland, held a grand ceremony to commemorate the 1,th anniversary of Mazu's death, and also held an academic seminar. Around this time, both sides of the Taiwan Province Strait set off a heat flow to study Mazu, and various materials, atlases and research results were launched one after another. However, there are still different opinions on many issues about Mazu belief, such as the mystery of Mazu's life experience, which is one of them.

Generally speaking, Mazu's surname is Lin, and her name is Mo. She was the youngest daughter of Zhoudu who inspected Lin Yuan after the Five Dynasties. She was born on March 23rd in the first year of Jianlong in northern Song Taizu. She has been smart since childhood, can cure people, is good at water, and is known as the "dragon girl". At that time, fishing boats and merchant ships often capsized in front of their hometown Meizhou Island, or were trapped in reefs. Mazu rescued them in case of trouble, and there were countless surviving fishermen and merchants. On the ninth day of September in the 4th year of Song Taizong Yongxi (987), at the age of 28, she suddenly left her family and went to heaven at the highest place on Meizhou Island. Since then, she has repeatedly appeared on the rough sea to escort the boaters. In the fifth year of Xuanhe in Song Huizong (1123), Yundi was sent to Korea as an official, and he was in distress at sea. With the help of Mazu, he was able to turn the corner. After playing in the imperial court, Huizong specially granted "Shunji" and set up a temple to worship. Since then, successive dynasties have paid tribute to her, especially "Protecting the country, understanding the spirit and helping shan qing to help Tian Fei", which was sealed in the 15th year of Yuan Dynasty (1278). Therefore, people in Fujian and Taiwan still affectionately call her "Mazu", and everyone in the world respects her as "Tian Fei" or "Tianhou". Zhao Yi's "Yu Cong Kao" in the Qing Dynasty recorded: "The boat-boaters in Jianghan are very loyal to the heavenly princess, especially at sea. ..... Legend has it that in the sea, when the wind and waves are in danger, you call for help, and often a red light or a divine bird comes, which is the spirit of a princess. " The influence of Mazu belief is far-reaching, so it can be seen.

However, since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the above-mentioned resume about Mazu has been questioned by scholars. For example, it was pointed out that the story of Lu Yundi's trip to North Korea only turned the corner, which was recorded in Ba Min Tong Zhi, and the book said that "God" was the eldest son of Chen Yan, the observation envoy at the end of Tang Dynasty, and was a local god who was popular in the Five Dynasties to perform in Lianjiang, and was given a gift by Huizong for knowing that Mazu saved the road, which was regarded as a "grafting" in folk stories. It has also been pointed out that the official positions of Mazu's ancestors and fathers listed in Meizhou's genealogy, such as "Fujian General Manager" and "Duxunjian", did not exist in the official systems of five dynasties countries, but were obviously added by later generations.

With Mazu's growing belief, Buddhists and Taoists also gave their own explanations of his life experience. For example, Huang Zhongyuan's "Record of the Newly-built Fanli Temple in Shengdun Shunji Ancestral Temple" said that Mazu was "the hundred billion incarnation of Putuo tuas". The Complete Book of Searching for Gods from the Origins of the Three Religions published in the Ming Dynasty describes this in more detail: Mazu's mother Chen tried to dream of Guanyin in the South China Sea "and swallowed it with excellent flowers, and became pregnant". Fourteen months later, Mazu was born on March 23rd, the first year of Tang Tianbao (742). Because she is the incarnation of Guanyin, she can worship Buddha in her infancy, recite the Guanyin Sutra at the age of five, and be compassionate when she grows up, saving all beings. Taoism said that Mazu was a beautiful woman before, because the old gentleman in the Imperial Palace witnessed that "the boat and boat were reciprocating, and the geomantic omen was inconvenient ... all the ghosts and gods took advantage of this change of yin and yang, overturning the boat and damaging people's lives", so he ordered her to "be born into the world and save the people's suffering" ("The Old gentleman in the Imperial Palace said Tian Fei's Effective Sutra for Saving Suffering"). According to Song Hui Yao, there was a Zhang Tianshi Temple in Putian County during the Song Dynasty, and the local people attached a memorial to "Mrs. Ling Hui, the Shunji Goddess Temple in Ninghai Town", which seems to provide evidence that Mazu belief originated from Taoism.

Some people think that Mazu is not necessarily a real person, but a virtual sea god among the people in fantasy. Since the Song Dynasty, navigation in Putian has been very developed. Faced with the rough sea, people can hardly get rid of their fear, so they hope to have a god to save the world and escort them, from which Mazu belief began. As for the origin of the female images of Tian Fei and Mazu and their names, Zhao Yi, a Qing dynasty, explained: According to the theory of Yin and Yang, the sky is Yang, the earth is Yin, and the water on the ground is Yin, and the male belongs to Yang and the female belongs to Yin, so the image of the water god should be female; Di Tuo and Tiandi are called "Tianhou", followed by jellyfish, so it is called "Tian Fei"; "Mazu" is the appellation of unmarried women in Fujian. Therefore, "Tian Fei's name is the name of the water god, and Lin's daughter says that there is no need for mud" (Volume 35 of Yu Cong Kao). This statement is quite agreed by some modern scholars.

Some people think that Mazu belief is the product of wizard culture, based on the historical records of Putian. For example, Liao Pengfei in the Southern Song Dynasty said that she "took witchcraft as a thing at first, and could predict people's fortunes" ("Reconstruction of Shunji Temple in Shengdunzu Temple"); Huang Siru said that she was "a native of Meizhou Island, who used witches to help things at the beginning, and could predict people's fortunes. When they died, many people built temples" (The Record of the Newly Built Fanli Temple in Shengdun Shunji Ancestral Temple), and Pu Yang Zhi in Shaoxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty also said that she was originally a "witch in the middle". All kinds of materials show that she was a woman who lived in Meizhou Island and could "predict people's fortunes". When folk superstitions prevailed in the Northern Song Dynasty, it was not surprising that there were one or two witchcraft wishes in the local area. If the witch wish has a little "special function" as mentioned today, it is even more miraculous. Mazu seems to be a person with some special functions, and all kinds of strange legends circulating among the people, such as "saving the relatives by lying on the machine", "collecting the two monsters" and "protecting the messenger", have added to her magical color. In its evolution from man to god, the good wishes of ordinary people for peace and the use of the ruling authorities have played a considerable role. The double ensemble of political reasons and social psychology contributed to the success of this activity.
