Canada's 227 New Policies on Skilled Migration —— Introducing 38 High-demand Occupations

227 New Deal-38 amendments to the Law on Shortage of Professional Immigrants C-50, commonly known as the 227 New Deal, will be applicable to those who apply after February 27, 2008. An immigrant applicant must be one of the 38 occupations in short supply and have at least three years of continuous full-time or equivalent paid related work experience in the ten years before applying. If it meets the requirements, the Canadian Embassy will deal with the federal skilled migration case as soon as it receives the application. The main changes are as follows:

Those who apply for federal skilled migration after February 27, 2008 must meet one of the following three conditions:

1. already has a work permit provided by a Canadian employer; or

2. You are an international student or foreign worker who has legally lived in Canada for at least 12 months;

3. Your occupation belongs to the latest list of 38 high-demand occupations published in Canada, and you have worked full-time in this occupation for at least one year in the last ten years.

With any of the above three conditions, the application still needs to reach a technical score of 67 or above, which means that the applicant has reached the qualification of skilled immigrants in Canada.
