What is the health check-up for studying in Australia?

Australia enjoys some of the highest health standards in the world. To maintain these standards, all visa applicants must meet the health requirements set out in the Immigration Act before being granted a visa to Australia. What are the requirements for a health examination in Australia?

Who needs a health examination?

If the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) believes that the applicant’s health condition is relevant to the issuance of a visa, Anyone who will travel to Australia may be asked to undergo a full body examination and/or chest X-ray.

If you plan to stay in Australia for less than 3 months and:

· Are over 75 years old, you will need to undergo a medical examination using Form 26 or Elderly Visitor Visa Applicant Medical Examination Form.

If you plan to stay in Australia for 3 to 12 months and:

· Age 11-74, you will need to have a chest X-ray using Form 160.

· Those under the age of 11 must use Form 26 for a full body examination.

· If you are over 75 years old, in addition to using Form 160 for a chest X-ray examination, you also need to use Form 26 or the Senior Visitor Visa Applicant Physical Examination Form for a physical examination.

If you plan to stay in Australia for more than 12 months, you will need to undergo a full body examination and chest X-ray.

If you are likely to need to enter a hospital, child care centre, nursing home or drug laboratory in Australia, you must have a chest X-ray and/or full body examination regardless of the length of the visit.

If you are likely to participate in a study course lasting more than three months, you must undergo a chest X-ray and/or full body examination.

If you have had a full-body examination and/or chest X-ray at a designated doctor for a previous visa application in recent months, it is possible that the previous examination results are still valid and can be reused. In subsequent visa applications submitted within 12 months from the date of the medical examination. If this is the case for you, please check with the visa office before taking a new medical examination.

How should I arrange a health examination?

For travel and family visit applications and temporary residence visas, if it is necessary for the applicant to undergo a full body examination and/or chest X-ray, then the applicant You can choose to go to a designated hospital for a physical examination before submitting the application.

For partner immigration applications and child immigration applications, applicants need to go to a designated hospital for a full body examination and chest X-ray before submitting the application. Applicants for other types of family immigration need to wait for notification from the Shanghai Visa Office before undergoing a full body examination and chest X-ray after submitting the application.

Applicants must undergo a physical examination at a designated hospital. Applicants can make an appointment at the designated hospital of their choice - and make sure to bring the following materials with them during the physical examination:

- Form 26 and/or Form 160;

- One form for each form Passport size photo;

- Passport (if applicable) or ID card

Applicants should also know the visa category they are applying for, as the designated doctor will need this information to complete the medical examination form. Applicants should make their own arrangements for a full-body examination and/or chest X-ray.

What will happen after the physical examination?

The doctor will send the results of the physical examination directly to the Physical Examination Review Office of the Embassy in Beijing. If any health risks are discovered during the examination, the Medical Examination Review Office of the Embassy in Beijing must send the results to the Australian Health Assessment Service (HOC) for further advice. According to the requirements of the law, the Medical Assessment Office of the Embassy in Beijing must accept the opinion of the Australian Health Assessment Service on whether the applicant meets the health requirements. Before issuing a visa, the HOC may require the applicant to undergo further medical examination.

If the Physical Examination Review Office of the Beijing Embassy needs to send the physical examination results to HOC, it may take up to 4 weeks to receive HOC's opinion. The HOC may require the applicant to undergo further medical examination. As a result, the application processing time will be further lengthened. Applicants have 49 days from the date of issuance of the physical examination letter to undergo a physical examination and the hospital will send the complete physical examination form to our office (the date of the physical examination for student visa applicants is stated in the PVA letter).
