At the border
You need to come to Canada within the validity period of your permanent resident visa /COPR. The validity period cannot be extended. There is no specific time limit for the validity of a permanent resident visa. The validity date of the medical examination results submitted when applying for immigration and the validity date of the passport will affect the validity period of the permanent resident visa.
If you have come to Canada, you can go in and out of the US-Canada border and show your permanent resident confirmation documents and other supporting documents to the border staff when you re-enter Canada. You can also make an appointment with Immigration Canada to complete your landing procedures. If you are outside Canada, you will submit your documents to complete the landing procedure at the Canadian airport. It should be noted that the main applicant in the immigration application must enter the country first, and his accompanying family members can land with the main applicant, but they cannot enter the country or go through the landing procedures before the main applicant.
When you enter the country, you will show your permanent resident confirmation document to the border staff, as well as the relevant supporting documents listed briefly below. The border staff will ask you some simple questions. If they think you are still qualified to become a permanent resident, they will immediately confirm your identity.
Permanent resident card (maple leaf card)
The border staff will ask you to provide a valid mailing address in Canada in order to send you a permanent resident card, also known as a maple leaf card. There is no extra charge for this program. The maple leaf card will be sent to the mailing address you provided within 2 to 3 months. If you don't have a local address for the time being, you can use the address of your relatives, friends or institutions. They will send you the card later, so that you can go back to Canada.
Documents required for landing
When entering the country, you need to bring the following documents:
1. New immigration status confirmation documents for you and your accompanying family members.
2. Valid passports or travel documents for you and your accompanying family members.
3.2 Copy of CBSA Personal Financial Declaration Form (B4): Form B4.
4.2 For the detailed list of attached articles, you can use the Personal Articles List Form (B4A) B4A provided by Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA).
5.2 A copy of the detailed list of personal belongings that you or your family will bring into Canada in the future (you can use the B4A form above). The personal items you wish to bring into Canada in the future need to be listed in this form. Articles on these two forms will be exempted from all entry taxes when entering the country.
6. Proof of assets (such as the latest bank deposit certificate) that you have the ability to financially support you and your family to settle in Canada in the next six months.
You should also take the following documents with you:
1. birth or adoption certificate
2. Family household registration certificate
3. Relevant medical documents, such as medical certificates.
4. Official school registration certificate (if accompanied by school-age children)
5. A valid driver's license or other identification documents.
6. Vehicle registration documents (if you wish to bring the vehicle into the country)
If you enter the country as a job (you obtained your status through skilled immigrants, such as Canadian experienced immigrants, federal skilled immigrants, provincial nominated immigrants, etc.). ), you should take it with you:
1. Certificate of education and student status
2. Professional qualification certificate and relevant documents (if you obtained your status through skilled migration)
3. The latest resume and personal work experience.
Immigration Canada only recognizes English or published documents, and any documents in non-Canadian official languages need to be translated and notarized before submission. If some of your supporting documents are not available in English or French, you should prepare notarized translated documents and take them with you before you leave.
After landing
After the landing procedure is completed, you can go back to your original country and make final preparations for moving to Canada. No problem. When you officially become a new immigrant, you will be free to enter and leave Canada.
If you need to leave Canada before obtaining a maple leaf card, you can apply for a one-time valid permanent resident travel document to return to Canada. If you hold a valid passport from a visa-free country, you will be able to enter Canada without a maple leaf card.
