The Historical Development of Lugang Town

Lugang Town is a famous town in central and western Taiwan Province Province, which belongs to Changhua County. It is located on the north bank of Lugangxi, about 12km from Changhua County and 2 ~ 3km from the sea. The population is about 75,000. It was originally the land of Ma Zhilin Society of Pingpu nationality. When Zheng Chenggong, who was located in Changhua Plain, ruled Taiwan, and the appeasement of North Road was located in the half line (now Changhua City), the Han people had already entered Yuan Ye, east of reclamation port. Since then, the communication between Lugang in Quanzhou, Fujian Province and the estuary of Lijiang River has gradually flourished.

In the forty-ninth year of Qingganlong (1784), together with Anping in the south, it was an important gateway for Taiwan Province Province to contact the mainland and an important port for transporting rice grains from Taiwan Province Province to Fujian. In the last years of Daoguang (182 1 ~ 1850), business was booming. When Mongga rose in Taibei, Lu Kang was once called "one government, two deer and three Mongga" with Taiwan Province government (now Tainan city) and Mongga. However, due to the flooding of turbid water streams, dry ports are prone to siltation. Although the port has been relocated to neighboring countries for many times, it eventually declined because it was not used for a long time nearby.

At the beginning of the 20th century, this port has been silted up and turned into a vegetable garden. Among the ports developed early in Taiwan Province Province, Lugang has preserved the most native cultural relics transplanted from the mainland, which is an important object to study the folklore and development history of Taiwan Province Province. In 1980s, the people of Taiwan Province Province set off an upsurge of seeking roots in the mainland, which made the name Lugang shine again. Provincial coastal highway 17 passes through here.
