Visa:
First-time applicants must follow the following steps to apply
Step 1: Determine the consular district where your place of residence is.
The U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou serves residents of Hainan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Fujian provinces. If you do not live in the above four provinces, you should apply at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing or the consulates in Shenyang, Shanghai or Chengdu.
Step 2: Pay the non-immigrant visa application fee.
Non-immigrant visa holders must pay the visa application fee at CITIC Industrial Bank. Please note: the fee is non-refundable. Applicants will receive a receipt after paying the fee. Please give this receipt to the visa officer along with other visa materials during the interview. For questions about visa application fees and payment procedures, please contact CITIC Industrial Bank.
Step 3: Prepare necessary materials.
All applicants must submit the following documents:
A passport that must be valid for nine months beyond the expected time of arrival in the United States.
A set of completed DS-156 and DS-157 application forms, each with a recent U.S. passport photo. Applicants can go to CITIC Bank during normal working hours to receive the DS-156 and DS-157 application forms for free
The application fee receipt issued by CITIC Industrial Bank.
Important: Applicants should also bring relevant documents that can prove that you have close family, work and economic ties in China, such as bank books, housing or land deeds, family photos, marriage certificates , birth certificate, company business card or employer's letter, etc., to prove to the questioning consul that you will return to China after a short stay in the United States. However, we do not specify what materials applicants need to bring. You can bring whatever documents you think will convince the consul that you will return to China.
Other materials to bring:
Business visa (B1) applicants should bring a detailed invitation letter issued by the U.S. inviting party and relevant business documents, such as fax, Bills of lading, contracts, product catalogs, purchase agreements and other documents that can reflect the true purpose of doing business in the United States.
Tourist visa (B2) applicants should provide documents that prove their ability to pay for their stay in the United States (or the inviting party’s ability to bear the expenses). If you are going to visit a relative, please bring documents proving your relationship.
Student visa (F1) applicants must bring a complete I-20 form, a recent school transcript, academic certificate, GRE/TOFEL scores, and proof of ability to pay for a study abroad program in the United States. Documentation of tuition and other expenses for an academic year. Please also make sure that the U.S. school has entered the name into the Student and Exchange Scholar Information System (SEVIS).
Visiting scholar visa (J1) applicants must bring a completed DS-2019 form, documentation proving financial ability, and proof of current employment and scholarship. Please also make sure that the U.S. school has entered the name into the Student and Exchange Scholar Information System (SEVIS).
Transit visa (C1) applicants must provide documentation proving the purpose of continuing to a third country after transit.
Temporary work visa (H1) applicants must bring an I-797 approval letter. In addition, Category H applicants must provide documentation supporting their work experience and a copy of the application file I-129 submitted by the U.S. employer.
Intra-company staff transfer visa (L1 and L2) applicants please click here for more information.
Applicants in the dependent categories (F2, J2 and H4) must bring proof of relationship to the primary applicant and proof of the primary applicant’s legal status in the United States (Form I-20, DS-2019 A copy of the form or I-797 approval letter, and a copy of his/her visa), as well as documentation proving financial ability to pay for expenses while in the United States. F2 and J2 applicants please make sure that the American school has entered your name into the Student and Exchange Scholar Information System (SEVIS).
Step 4: Call the Visa Information Call Center: 4008-872-333 (users from mainland China) or 86-21-3881-4611 (users outside mainland China)* to make an appointment for an interview.
The State Department advises that international users are responsible for paying the cost of international long distance calls. The current situation shows that international users have to wait for a long time before being connected to an operator.
Applicants who have been denied a visa should explain this to the staff member who answers the appointment call. Concealing the fact that you have been denied a visa is likely to cost you your chance of getting a visa.
If you need to apply for an expedited interview time, please send a fax directly to the Non-Immigration Department of the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou (86-20-3884-4424). Generally, expedited requests are approved based on humanitarian grounds or medical emergencies.
Step 5: Receive an interview
After arriving at the consulate, you will have the opportunity to explain the reason for your trip to the United States and present supporting documents. It is important to answer the consul's questions truthfully. Many applicants often miss the opportunity to obtain a visa by concealing the true facts about their income, employment or family status, even if these facts would not have a negative impact on their application. Applicants should not submit forged documents, such as fake invitation letters, company licenses or ID cards. It is a serious consular violation for an applicant to tell lies and provide false documents, which will result in the applicant being permanently ineligible to travel to the United States.
