What does African-American mean?

American federal law stipulates that "black" or other "discriminatory" words are no longer used when addressing ethnic minorities, and "African descent" is used instead of "black American", including: black American slaves and their descendants brought to the United States by European colonists in history; New black immigrants and their descendants.
