What disaster happened in 1962?

In 1962, a Cuban missile crisis occurred in the Caribbean that shocked the world.

It was caused by the deployment of medium-range ballistic missiles Thor and Jupiter missiles by the United States in Italy and Turkey in 1959. The former Soviet Union deployed missiles in Cuba in order to regain its strategic disadvantage. This was the most intense confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Cuban Revolution

On January 1, 1959, Cuba won the victory of the people's revolution and overthrew the Batista dictatorship. The Republic of Cuba was established on January 13. The person who declared this victory was Fidel Castro, who led the people's revolution. This leader was only 32 years old at the time. In the early days of the new regime, the relationship between the United States and Cuba was relatively good.

In February, Castro became prime minister. In April, he visited the United States and was warmly welcomed by the Eisenhower administration. Batista is a puppet supported by the United States. The U.S. government welcomes Castro not because he appreciates his opposition to dictatorship, but because it attempts to bring Cuba into the U.S. sphere of influence and consolidate its rule base in Latin America.
