What does l Liangcheng mean?
Liangcheng County has a long history. Human beings thrived as early as 6,000 years ago. It was once an important area for the activities of nomadic people in the north. According to legend, it belonged to the State of Zhao during the Warring States Period, and to the State of Yanmen in the Qin Dynasty. The county was established in the Western Han Dynasty and was named Woyang. It was named after the Wo River (today's Gongba River) flowing through the city. In the Northern Wei Dynasty, Liangcheng County was established, which governed Shenhe and Xuanhong counties. It was first called "Liangcheng". Liao established Tiancheng and Xuande counties. In the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, it was renamed Xuanning County. In the Ming Dynasty, the county was abandoned and Xuandewei was established as an outpost near Datong. Ningyuan Hall was established in the Qing Dynasty, which was under the jurisdiction of Tongpan of Shuoping Prefecture. In the first year of the Republic of China (1911), Ningyuan County was established. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), because "Ningyuan" had the same name as a county in another province, Liangcheng County continued to use its old name in the Northern Wei Dynasty and was renamed Liangcheng County. It was under the jurisdiction of the Chahar Special Region, and its administrative seat was located in today's Yongxing Town. It was placed under the jurisdiction of Suiyuan Province in 1929. After the liberation of Liangcheng County in 1948, the administrative office was moved to Xintang (today's Daihai Town). It was successively under the jurisdiction of Helin, Jining Commissioner's Office, and Pingdiquan Administrative District, from 1958 to August 2004. It belongs to the Ulanqab League, and from September 2004 to the present it belongs to Ulanqab City.
