The most terrifying period of SARS was from March to May 2003.
Around December 5, 2002, Huang Xingchu, a native of Heyuan City who was working in Shenzhen, thought he had a cold, but he could not be cured. On the evening of the 16th, he was sent to Heyuan People's Hospital. His condition worsened the next day. Having difficulty breathing, he was sent to the Guangzhou Military Region General Hospital. Huang Xingchu was later determined to be SARS patient zero.
On February 14, 2003, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention organized experts to collect specimens for identification. At this time, the total number of reported cases in Guangdong was 305.
Starting from February 9 of that year, there were rumors that smoking white vinegar and drinking isatis root could cure strange diseases, and isatis root was out of stock in the market.
On March 6 of that year, the first imported case of SARS was reported in Beijing. By March 12, WHO issued a global warning and officially named the disease on March 15. SARS.
After that, SARS spread in many places around the world, from Southeast Asia to Australia, Europe and North America, with many cases appearing.
On March 15, Peking University Affiliated Hospital received a patient. Due to failure to take corresponding strict measures, a large number of medical staff in the hospital were infected, and SARS entered the outbreak period.
On April 18, 2003, the national master’s degree re-examination was temporarily postponed to the end of May. The next day, it was announced that non-local students were not allowed to leave school and go home during the May Day holiday, and they were required to study and live on-site.
On April 20, more than 600 cases were reported in Beijing, and the "Golden Walk" holiday originally scheduled to start on May 1 was announced to be suspended to ensure that the epidemic would not spread further.
On April 23, 4,288 cases were reported globally. The Second Department of Xiaotangshan Hospital admitted the first batch of 134 SARS patients on May 1, the second batch of 97 patients on May 3, and the third batch of 93 patients on May 4.
On May 29, the number of new cases in Beijing reached zero. On June 20, 2003, the last 18 patients from Xiaotangshan Hospital were discharged.
On July 13, 2003, the number of SARS patients and suspected cases in the world stopped growing, and the SARS process was basically over.
