Colin Powell was born on April 5, 1937 in New York, USA. He served in the U.S. Army for 35 years and rose to the rank of four-star general. Served as national security adviser during the Reagan era. From October 1989 to September 30, 1993, General Powell served as the twelfth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Department of Defense in the administrations of Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton. In January 2001, Powell was appointed Secretary of State by President George W. Bush. Colin Powell is the first black Secretary of State in U.S. history and the highest-ranking black man in American politics.
Education: Bachelor's degree in geography from the City University of New York; Master's degree in business administration from The George Washington University.
General Powell is a legendary soldier. This child of African immigrants who grew up in a slum was from a poor family. He went to school and worked part-time, carrying bags and mopping floors. After growing up, he participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps while attending the City College of New York, and began his military career until he became the highest military officer, a four-star general. The current President Bush is the fourth president he has served since entering politics.
