Will renewing the Chinese passport during the process of political asylum have any impact on the case?
For applicants who do not meet the conditions, the Immigration Bureau has two processing decisions.
If the applicant has illegally resided in the United States, the political asylum review officer will transfer the case to the immigration judge and inform the applicant when and where to go to the immigration judge's office for a hearing.
If the applicant's status is still legal, the examining officer will send a notice to the applicant stating that he intends to refuse the asylum application and explaining the reasons for the refusal. The applicant has 16 days to write a reply explaining his reasons. After reviewing the applicant's defense, if he finds it reasonable, the examiner will issue a letter of approval; if the defense cannot convince the examiner, he will issue a letter of rejection.
One year after the grantee’s political asylum is approved, the applicant can apply to adjust status to a U.S. permanent resident.
