How to retain the mainland identity card for permanent residence in Hong Kong?

Strictly speaking, mainland residents should cancel their mainland accounts when they get Hong Kong permanent identity cards and Hong Kong passports.

But so far, the SAR Government has not stipulated that applications for "Hong Kong permanent identity cards" or "Hong Kong passports" must be cancelled before they can be processed. Therefore, at this stage, Hong Kong investment immigrants can still choose to keep their mainland accounts, which can be divided into two situations:

1. Application for Home Visit Permit (Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents to Travel to and from the Mainland) is a document issued by People's Republic of China (PRC) and Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau to Hong Kong and Macao residents with China nationality to travel to and from the Mainland. If Hong Kong investment immigrant applicants want to travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland by applying for a "Home Visit Permit" after obtaining a Hong Kong permanent identity card, they need to cancel their household registration in the Mainland.

2. Don't apply for a home visit permit. If the applicant frequently travels between Hong Kong and the Mainland, but does not want to apply for a home visit permit and give up his mainland account, there are two solutions: (1) apply for a Hong Kong and Macao Pass to use from Hong Kong to the Mainland;

(2) You can go to a third country with a Hong Kong passport, and then go to the mainland from the third country. With a third country as a transit point, you can hold a China passport and a Hong Kong passport at the same time, and you can keep your mainland account.

According to the law, a natural person can only be registered as a permanent resident in one place according to Article 6 of the Regulations on Household Registration in People's Republic of China (PRC).
