Cultural origin of southern Fujian

There is a building called "arcade" in the ancient city of Quanzhou. In addition to architecture, Quanzhou also has "Nanyin", "Nanxi" and "Nanguan", which are regarded as "local accent" by Southeast Asians. In a broad sense, "Nanguan" refers to the music of China Southern Language Family. However, the Nanguan Opera preserved in Taiwan Province Province today refers to the "Liyuan Opera", the oldest drama in the Minnan language family, which spread to Xiamen, Taiwan Province, Nanyang and other places where there are many overseas Chinese in southern Fujian. Among the lanterns and floats in the parade, many programs presented by overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia are always refreshing.

There are many similarities in folk beliefs between South Fujian and Southeast Asia, such as Mazu, Guandi, Baosheng Emperor and Zhang Kai Wang Sheng, among which Mazu belief is the most popular. Mazu belief, which originated in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, has formed a Mazu belief circle on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and its surrounding areas after several migrations. Mazu Tempel incense in Tianhou Temple in Quanzhou is flourishing, and a large number of overseas Chinese from Southeast Asia come to pay homage every year. There are hundreds of Mazu Tempel scattered from Fujian to Taiwan Province Province and Southeast Asia.

Cultural exchange sublimates cross-strait love

Zhangzhou is an important ancestral home of Taiwan Province compatriots in Qing Dynasty. Among the existing population in Taiwan, about 40% are from Zhangzhou in Qing Dynasty.
