Poor peasants, middle peasants, rich peasants and landlords are the divisions of rural class composition in rural land reform in China. The following are the differences between them:

Different economic status: poor peasants have low economic status and poor living standards; The economic situation of middle peasants is relatively good, but they still need to make a living; Rich peasants' economy is relatively rich and their living standards are relatively high; Landlords are usually rich people in rural areas with more wealth and social status.

Different social status: in the old society, the landlord class usually enjoyed a higher social status, while the poor peasants and middle peasants were in a position of exploitation. Poor and middle peasants depend on landlords economically and may be oppressed and exploited by landlords. Rich peasants often have more land, property and resources, so they have certain advantages in economy. Rich peasants will enjoy a higher social status than poor peasants and middle peasants.

Different political positions: during the land reform period, poor peasants and middle peasants were usually supporters of the reform, hoping to improve their living conditions by redistributing land. The situation of the rich peasants may be complicated. Some rich peasants may support the reform, while others may have reservations about it. The landlord class usually supports the maintenance of feudal hierarchy and social stability, and they want to maintain their privileged position, because the landlord class is usually the object of reform, and their land and property will be redistributed to poor and middle peasants.
