: Guide to Handling Temporary Residence Visa in Canada
For more information about visiting visas, please visit "Visiting Canada" on the CIC website.
1. Do I need a visa?
Citizens of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Mongolia need visas to enter Canada.
If you are a citizen or permanent resident of other countries, please visit the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to find out whether you need a visa to enter Canada.
American permanent residents (green card holders) who have American permanent resident (green card) identity documents or can provide other documents to prove their identity do not need a visa to enter Canada. However, if you have been outside the United States for a long time, you must confirm your permanent resident status before entering Canada.
2. What kinds of visas are there?
One entry visa allows you to enter Canada once. If you already have a valid American visa and plan to go to the United States within the legal residence period in Canada, re-entry from the United States to Canada is still within the legal residence period in Canada, then re-entry from the United States to Canada does not require multiple entry visas.
A multiple-entry visa allows you to enter Canada from other countries many times during the validity period of the visa. If you have never been to Canada before, or you are not sure whether you meet the requirements for obtaining a visa, you can only apply for a single entry visa.
The transit visa is applicable to travelers who travel to other countries through Canada with a stopover time of no more than 48 hours. Transit visas are free and can be issued for one or more entry. In the document, the applicant must prove to the visa officer that he has a ticket and visa to the final destination country (if necessary). At the port of entry, immigration officials will decide whether to allow travelers to enter Canada. If the traveler is refused entry, he/she will be sent back to the source.
Visa validity period: the visa validity period is decided by the visa officer. Single-entry visas are usually valid for six months, and multiple-entry visas will be valid for longer. The effective date refers to the date when you must enter (not leave) Canada. Officials at the port of entry will decide how long they can stay. We can't issue visas that are valid longer than passports. Therefore, if your passport is about to expire, please renew it before applying for a Canadian visa. Please note that the final decision of visa validity depends on the visa officer.
3. Who should use the temporary resident visit visa application form?
All applicants who wish to go to Canada for private short-term visits (to visit relatives or friends), business visits, tourism, students returning to Canada (with valid study permits), short-term study (courses not exceeding 6 months, including summer camps), workers returning to Canada (with valid work permits), or transiting Canada.

Submit in person
The application for a temporary resident visit visa and a permanent resident travel document can be submitted in person, but the applicant needs to make an appointment in person at the embassy every morning from Monday to Thursday at11:00–12: 00. The reservation cannot be transferred to others. You can submit your application in person and pay the fee through China UnionPay within the scheduled time. It takes at least two weeks to make an appointment. The embassy visa office window will no longer accept work permit applications, study permit applications, immigration applications, application progress inquiries, applications submitted by authorized agents or results obtained, and will no longer accept the submission of any supplementary documents.
Please note that the processing time varies from case to case.
6. When should I apply?
We strongly recommend that you plan your trip in advance and apply at least two months before the estimated departure date. Please refer to our processing time.
7. What factors will the visa officer consider when evaluating the application?
Foreigners who wish to visit Canada temporarily must comply with the relevant requirements applicable to temporary visitors. One of the requirements is that he/she will leave Canada on his/her own after the authorized stay, and will not violate the entry conditions (for example, he/she is not allowed to study or work without authorization), and he/she is not prohibited from immigration in the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Law.
When assessing whether the applicant is a genuine temporary visitor, the visa officer will consider the following factors:
? The applicant's travel and identity documents;
? The reason for going to Canada and the local contact person of the applicant;
? The financial status of the applicant's trip;
? Binding force of the applicant in his country of residence, including immigration status, employment and family binding force.
? Whether the applicant will leave Canada after the approved stay, and
? The applicant's health status.
The visa officer makes corresponding decisions according to the actual situation of each application. Applicants have the obligation to prove that their motives are true.
8. What if I need a passport?
Passports are necessary documents when submitting applications, and passports are not allowed to be "lent". If you want to get your passport back during the application process, you need to cancel your application.
If you submit your application through the visa application center, please submit a written cancellation request to the visa application center. Your passport and documents will be returned to you through the visa application center in about 2 working days.
If the application is submitted to the Canadian Embassy by post, please send us a cancellation letter, clearly indicating your name, file number (if known), date of birth and your own signature. The cancellation letter can be mailed to our office or faxed to (86- 10)5 139-4449. Your passport and documents will be mailed to you.
9. How to judge the validity of a visa?
The expiration date on the visa means that you must enter Canada before this date.
The validity of the visa is determined by the visa officer. The validity period of a single entry visa is usually three months, and the validity period of a multiple entry visa will be longer.
* The validity period of the temporary resident tourist visa cannot exceed the validity period of the passport. If your passport is about to expire, you may wish to apply for an extension before applying for a Canadian visa.
10. Who needs a physical examination and why?
After the temporary resident visit visa is submitted, our bureau will inform the applicant whether it is necessary to have a physical examination.
Please note: According to Canada's immigration law, visa officers must ensure that applicants who obtain visas will not cause harm to public health in Canada, nor will they impose an excessive burden on medical and social services. When the visa officer makes a decision, he issues a medical examination notice. You must complete a physical examination before going to Canada.
Only applicants who have received a medical examination notice need a medical examination. Please click here to get the latest list of designated medical examiners.
1 1. If I want to go to the United States during my visit to Canada, do I need a multiple-entry visa for Canada?
A one-time entry visa to Canada allows you to enter Canada once. However, as long as you don't go to other countries, using this one-time entry visa can enable you to enter Canada repeatedly from the United States, St. Pierre Island and Miquelon Island; And these items must be within your legal residence in Canada.
If you plan to travel to the United States during your stay in Canada, and then return to Canada directly from the United States, and re-entering Canada is still within the legal stay period in Canada, then re-entering Canada does not require multiple entry visas.
12. I don't plan to visit Canada, but my flight will stop in Canada on the way to the final destination. Do I need a visa?
Yes, if you want to reach your final destination through Canada (stay no more than 48 hours), you need a temporary resident visit visa, which is commonly called a transit visa. The application procedure is the same as above, but no application fee is required. Please click here for a list of countries and regions that need visas to transit Canada.
As a part of the Canadian transit visa-free program, the pilot program of China passenger transit visa-free has been launched. The plan will make it unnecessary for China citizens with valid US visas to travel between China and the United States through Vancouver International Airport. In order to meet this requirement, China tourists must fly from Hongkong, Manila or Taipei to Vancouver by Cathay Pacific Airlines, Philippine Airlines or China Airlines.
13. Who can I invite?
Anyone who lives in Canada or has legal status in Canada can be an inviter. If you plan to invite friends, family members or business partners to Canada, please download the application form and a complete list of required documents.

If your own situation has changed obviously, and you think this change will lead to different conclusions in your application, you can reapply. However, if your situation has not changed, it is unlikely that you will be approved after reapplication.
