Huainan city belongs to Huainan syncline in the east of Huainan depression fold fault zone (namely Huai Yu fold zone of North China platform) in the Sino-Korean paraplatform structural unit. It borders Tanlu Fault in the east, Zhoukou Depression in the west, Bengbu Uplift in the north, Fu Depression in the south, Dongshan Fault and Liu Fu Fault in the north and south. The structure in this area is mainly NW-trending structure, which was strongly reformed in the later period, but the overall shape changed little, and secondary folds and faults developed in the compound syncline.

Below the first terrace is the Huaihe River high beach, which is 2000-3000m wide and1.7-20m above sea level. Below the floodplain is the riverside shoal of Huaihe River.

Below the south slope of Shungeng Mountain, the first and second flood terraces of Gaotang Lake are on the east side, and the first and second flood terraces of Wabu Lake are on the west side; In the middle is hilly land. The plain area to the north of Huaihe River is a shallow valley plain between rivers, and the terrain is inclined from northwest to southeast, with an altitude of 20-24 meters and a height difference of 4-5 meters.
