Air ports have been opened. In early 2016, the reconstruction and expansion plan was officially launched to upgrade the airport grade from 4C to 4D. The planned construction period is 3 years.

The reconstruction and expansion project includes extending the runway from 2,400 meters to 2,800 meters, building some contact roads, taxiways and navigation lighting systems; building a new Category I precision approach system in the secondary descent direction of the runway to achieve blind landings on both sides , reduce and reduce the impact of rain and fog weather on flight operations, and further improve flight punctuality; build 4 new parking spaces and an 8,000-square-meter T2 terminal (international departure terminal).

After the new round of reconstruction and expansion, Wanzhou Airport can further improve the airport’s safe operation capabilities, and will also further enhance Wanzhou District’s radiating and driving ability as a central city in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area.

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, Wanzhou Airport plans to open 14 new domestic routes (Changsha, Xining, Sanya, Tianjin, Lijiang, Urumqi, Lhasa, Qingdao, Hohhot, Harbin, Nanning, Taiyuan, Jinan , Wenzhou), 1 regional route (Taipei), and 3 international routes (Thailand, South Korea, Japan).

By the end of the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, the number of operating routes will reach more than 30, the number of annual flight movements will reach 13,000, and the annual passenger throughput will exceed 1 million. The Hong Kong route was launched on April 27, 2015, and the route to Macau is expected to be launched in the second half of 2015. In terms of bridge construction:

The construction of the third Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge is in full swing and is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2017. The construction of the Fourth Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge (Huma Yangtze River Bridge) is in full swing and is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2016. The fifth Wanzhou Yangtze River Bridge (Xintian Yangtze River Bridge) is starting preliminary work and is expected to be put into construction in 2016. 13.
