Detailed explanation of the application materials and process of 2022 American study visa

The quality of education in American study abroad schools has been recognized by the international community, which can be seen from the fact that more and more international students choose to study in the United States. Learn about the application materials and application process of studying in the United States in 2022 with me.

1. Application materials for studying in the United States

American immigration law provides two kinds of non-immigrant visas for students studying in the United States. The "F" visa is issued to international students studying in the United States, while the "M" visa is issued to international students studying in non-academic or vocational fields. To obtain a student visa, an applicant must first apply and be accepted by an American school. When you are admitted, the school will send you an I-20 or I-20M form. You must show this form when you apply for a visa.

Applicants who apply for a study visa in the United States must first prove that they have the ability to be full-time students in the United States. Applicants must also prove that the sole purpose of their short stay in the United States is to complete their studies in established academic institutions. In addition, the applicant must also prove that he has the ability to pay the tuition fees and the living expenses required during the school period.

All student visa applicants should be prepared in advance to present the following materials and any other supporting materials related to visa application during the interview:

1, valid passport

If your passport will expire or be damaged within six months from the expected date of arrival in the United States, or there is no blank visa issuance page on your passport, please apply for a new passport before going to the embassy for an interview.

2. Confirmation Page of DS-160 Form

Please indicate your Chinese name, telegram code of Chinese name, China home address, company name and address on it. Please print your form confirmation page vertically on A4 paper. Please bring the printed confirmation page of DS- 160 form with you during the interview. Do not use the fax confirmation page.

3. A photo

2-inch by 2-inch (5 1mm x 5 1mm) square color frontal photos taken within 6 months. Please stick your photo on the cover of your passport with scotch tape.

4. Original receipt of visa application fee

You can pay a visa application fee of US$ 65,438+040 (RMB 896) at any branch of China CITIC Bank in China. Please stick the receipt on the lower part of the confirmation page with glue or tape.

5. Passport with previous American visa

Including expired passports.

6. Fill in the complete form of SEVIS.

The complete I-20A-B form (distributed to students of F 1) or I-20M-N form (distributed to students of M- 1) must be signed by DSO and the applicant himself. The name on the form must be exactly the same as the name on your passport, and it has been entered into SEVIS system by American academic institutions.

7.SEVIS expense receipt

Most applicants for J, F and M visas now have to pay for the maintenance of students and exchange visits to the Scholars Information System (SEVIS). Please bring the electronic receipt or the original I-797 receipt when you go to the embassy for an interview.

8. A legally binding certificate in China.

Produce economic, social, family or other binding documents to help prove that you are willing to return to China after a short stay in the United States.

9. Proof of funds

Prove that you have the ability to pay for the whole period when you are not working in the United States.

10, research/study plan

Detailed information about your planned study or research work during your stay in the United States, including the names and email addresses of your tutors and/or deans of American universities.

1 1. Resume:

Describe your past academic and work experience in detail, including a list of published articles.

12, school report card of old classmates returning to school

Old students who want to go back to American schools should submit official course transcripts when applying for visas.

13, personal introduction of the tutor

Graduate students who have been assigned tutors in American universities should bring their tutors' personal introduction, resumes or printed web pages.

Please note that the above materials are not exhaustive, and showing them during the interview will not ensure that you get a visa. You must be prepared in advance so that you can reasonably explain your purpose of coming to the United States and the reason for returning to China during the interview, and show relevant evidence to prove your statement.

Second, the application process for studying in the United States

The specific operation steps are as follows:

Step 1: I-20

After receiving the I-20, you should carefully check whether the information in it is correct, because it takes about the same time to distribute the I-20 to summer schools, undergraduate and graduate students every year. Too much information will inevitably make mistakes, so you must confirm it before starting the second step.

Step 2: Service charge

The full name of SEVIS is Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, which is a network database for storing information of American international students and exchange scholars. Every foreigner applying for an F- 1 non-immigrant visa has to pay a SEVIS fee of $350 for the daily maintenance of the database.

note:

After filling in the relevant information correctly, click OK to submit. If the payment is successful, the system will display the electronic receipt page (I-90 1). Please make sure that a printer is connected to your computer, and then click Print to print the paper directly. (If there is no linked printing device at that time, be sure to save it as a PDF document on the page or at least keep the payment success receipt in the screenshot).

It's important to print a paper receipt! You need to provide a payment receipt when applying for a visa interview. It is recommended to print two copies.

Step 3: Submit the DS- 160 application form.

The DS- 160 form is the online form filling instructions of the electronic application system for non-immigrant visas.

Before you begin to fill in, you need to know a few questions:

1) Choose your own territory;

2) If you are worried about understanding the wrong information, you can choose Chinese mode (if there is no problem with English, you can enter the verification code and click Start Application);

3) When filling in the DS- 160 application, the system needs to upload the electronic photos that meet the requirements before submitting it. Please prepare in advance in the regular photo studio (visa photo requirements) and keep the electronic photos for uploading. Of course, you can fill in the form before adding it, but I suggest you prepare in advance to speed up efficiency.

4) Personal and family information will be required when filling in the DS- 160 form, so the following materials must be prepared before filling in. Passport, travel plan, past experience of visiting the United States and other countries, educational experience/work experience, purpose of visiting the United States, I-20 form, etc. );

5) After being clear, you can click to start an application as mentioned in the second step just now. After clicking, you will be asked to set a security question and give you an application ID number.

Note: be sure to save the screenshot, because this system will exit as soon as it expires, and you need to fill in the ID number, security questions and so on to verify it again.
