Chinese, why do you still want to go to Canada?
It has been seven months since I came to Canada. I have a lot of feelings, and I really want to use this time during the holiday to sort out my thoughts, firstly as my own diary, and secondly as a reference for those who want to go abroad. However, the time is not long, many things are not fully seen, and I dare not make any reasonable imagination, so I can only briefly talk about my psychological feelings.
However, it doesn’t matter whether you go home or not. When you first landed, you couldn’t help but think seriously. Going abroad must have broadened your horizons? It must mean that there are more roads to take in life, and it must be better than in China? I had no doubts about these issues before going abroad. But people who have been there warned me: Canada is just like that. It is impossible for you to blend into the society here. We also tried it at first, but later we found out that it would not work. Therefore, it is difficult to mix here. The most you can do is mix different nationalities, and you will almost have to go back to your country to mix. Everyone is like this.
Is this dish of cold water justified? In order to answer this question, I spent the past six months and gradually developed my own opinions.
First, let’s draw a picture of me and other new immigrants from mainland China: At first, I was a new immigrant and I took pictures everywhere I went. Then, I couldn’t speak the language, so I went to a language school and took a class in Chinese. Friends; then go to work or go to school in order to find a professional job; oh, finally get a somewhat satisfactory job, life is like this, it is a bit boring, but, think about it for Next generation.
Language barrier is the most serious problem for many people. It is like a wall. How can people get through it? But fortunately, even though the words are fragmented, I can still meet the needs of daily life, such as shopping and asking for directions, without suffering the disadvantage of being dumb. If I wanted to talk to the white man for a few more words, I would grind my teeth until I could squeeze out a few words. It’s better to have Chinese friends, who can communicate well with language and emotions, so let’s go play together, shall we? We don’t play with white people, we don’t play with Chinese people who grew up in the local area, we don’t play with Hong Kong people, we don’t play with Taiwanese people, the Indians all stay on their own reservations, we rarely see them, and if we do we don’t play with them Play.
Do you think that if you put different cultures together, they will automatically merge? If you put people of different skin colors in the same school class, can they become classmates and friends? No. Cultures are difficult to integrate. In my opinion, Canada's so-called multiculturalism of 200 languages ??only has one, white culture, which is the mainstream culture. The cultural similarities and differences of other minority groups are used to be assimilated. Except for the culture of food, other aspects of the culture brought by the Chinese are meant to be assimilated. Therefore, the cultural disadvantage of new immigrants is very obvious, and it is almost impossible not to feel marginalized. Many new immigrants regard themselves as a vulnerable group.
The so-called marginalization means that there is naturally a boundary that divides different ethnic groups. When we realize the existence of this boundary, we will naturally live in a small Chinese circle. We gather together after work and study, enjoy new people and things together, and enjoy each other's recognition. When we all place our sense of identity on these friends, we no longer care about how white people evaluate us or what the values ??of this new society are, because it has nothing to do with us. We closed ourselves in the values ??we brought from home and established a small China in Canada. Therefore, in Chinatown, fellow Fujianese people still sweep garbage into the streets with confidence. Although he also knew that in many other places, the ground was so clean that you could sit down anywhere without fear of soiling your pants.
