The Instant Universe is a comedy fantasy film, directed by Guan Dan and Daniel Schneider, starring Yang Ziqiong, Jamie Lee Curtis and Guan Jiwei. It was released in North America on March 25th, 2022.

The film tells the story of a mother who was exhausted by life and went through many parallel universes, trying to overcome evil, save her daughter and keep her family.

Film evaluation

On the surface, Instant Universe is a journey of metaphysics in the multiverse, but at the core, it is actually a bittersweet family drama, a comedy about marriage, a history of immigration struggle and a sad mother-daughter relationship.

In addition, through the conflict between Evelyn's family and the female taxpayer in Jamie Lee Curtis, the film shows the misunderstanding and prejudice of the mainstream American society towards Asian groups. However, because the overall pace of the film is too fast and the structure is too fancy, the Asian group in the film still cannot get rid of those common stereotypes.
