Introduction to the Boers
Refers to the mixed ethnic group formed by the descendants of white immigrants from the Netherlands, France and Germany living in South Africa. Derived from the Dutch word "Boer" (farmer). The term is now basically no longer used, and is renamed Afrikaners (website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China) or Afrikaners. South Africans of Dutch or French Protestant ancestry, especially early residents of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. The descendants of the Boers today are mostly Africaners.
