How do American students change their names?

Changing the name is too much trouble. First of all, we have to change the name on the passport, then there are visas, I-94, I-20, China hukou ID card, bank account, credit card and so on. I suggest you have a good talk with the international office of your school.

If you want to change your name to Mary Wang just because your original name is Wang Xiaoli, you don't have to change it. Introduce yourself as King Mary. When someone asks (for example, the professor calls the roll) a question about' Wang Xiaoli', just raise your hand and say' I'll go by Mary'. This practice is very common in America.
