Are Ryukyu people of China descent?
After the Meiji Restoration in Japan, Ryukyu was annexed by Japan. Before the annexation, a large number of people migrated to Ryukyu along the southeast coast of China, especially Fujian people (with more Ruan surnames). Today, the islanders (about 654.38+0.37 million) are still mainly descendants of immigrants from China.
The Ryukyu Islands is located in the eastern periphery of the East China Sea in China, with a total length of 1000 kilometers from north to south and a northeast-southwest trend. There are more than 60 named inhabited islands and more than 400 unnamed islands in Ryukyu Islands, Tugara Islands, Amami Islands, Oshima Islands, Dadong Islands and Sendao Islands. Historically, the Ryukyu Islands belonged to the Central Dynasty of China for a long time, and was called Ryukyu Kingdom in history. It paid tribute to China year after year and became a vassal year after year.
Geology and geomorphology of Ryukyu Islands
Ryukyu Islands have typical characteristics of subtropical islands, including mainland island, volcanic island and coral island. Influenced by island types, rock properties, geological formation age, crustal movement and sea level change, the topography of Ryukyu Islands is complex and diverse, with mountains, hills, terraces and lowlands developed.
The proportions of various landforms are 22%, 32%, 35%, 1 1% respectively. Mountains and hills composed of Mesozoic, Paleozoic and Tertiary strata constitute the skeleton of Ryukyu Islands, and terraces and lowlands are composed of Quaternary coral limestone.
Topographically, the mainland islands and new volcanic islands formed from the Cenozoic Quaternary Pleistocene to Holocene are generally large in land area and high in altitude, and the terrain is mainly mountainous and hilly, which is often called "high island". However, the ancient volcanic islands and coral islands formed in Cenozoic Neogene Pliocene were significantly affected by erosion. Generally, the land area is small and the altitude is low, and the terrain is mainly terraced fields and lowlands. Often called "low island".
