Foreigners and China people can be naturalized after several years of marriage.

China nationality still belongs to the examination and approval system. Only when the Ministry of Public Security approves to join China nationality can you become a citizen of China. A person who has lived in China with his spouse for five years after marriage may apply for a permanent residence permit for foreigners.

Foreign spouses of China nationals who apply for China nationality shall apply to the exit-entry administration department of the public security organ where their close relatives of nationality are registered, and submit relevant materials such as international travel documents, marriage certificates and residence certificates in China, which shall be examined and approved by the Ministry of Public Security. "Residence certificate in China" refers to a foreigner's permanent residence permit.

According to the relevant provisions of the Administrative Measures for the Examination and Approval of Foreigners' Permanent Residence in China, foreign spouses of China citizens who have been married for five years, have lived in China for five years continuously, have lived in China for not less than nine months every year and have stable living security and residence can apply for a permanent residence permit for foreigners. On March 18, 2008, at the fourth plenary meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, China announced the establishment of the National Immigration Bureau, which is managed by the Ministry of Public Security. The National Immigration Bureau was formally established on March 20 13 18. The newly established National Immigration Bureau is responsible for the management of foreigners' residence and permanent residence in China. Accordingly, the issuing authority of permanent residence identity cards for China people and foreigners was changed to People's Republic of China (PRC) National Immigration Bureau.
