There were five palaces in the Tang Dynasty, located in Xi, Shaanxi and Luoyang, Henan.

The five major palaces in the Tang Dynasty were Taiji Palace (Xi 'an), Wei Zicheng (Luoyang), Daming Palace (Xi 'an), Shangyang Palace (Luoyang) and Xingqing Palace (Xi 'an).

In 706, Tang Zhongzong lived in Wei Zicheng for one and a half years after he ascended the throne, and then moved to Chang 'an, mainly living in Daming Palace. Since then, from the early Tang Xuanzong, Tang Ruizong mainly lived in Daming Palace.

At the end of the Tang Dynasty, after Tang Zhaozong moved to Luoyang, he and the last emperor Aizong mainly lived in Wei Zi.
