Where are Li people from Hainan?

This is rarely studied; At present, it is said that it migrated from Chinese mainland (Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi) to Hainan Island.

According to legend, the Chiyou tribe, one of the tribes in ancient times, is the collective name of all ethnic tribes in the east and south. There are many ethnic tribes, later called "Nanman", "Baiyue", "Jiuli" and "Sanmiao", and it is the ancestor of southern ethnic minorities such as Li, Miao and Zhuang. Due to frequent rebellions, the Chiyou tribe was annexed and driven away by the Yellow Emperor, Yao, Shun, Yu and later dynasties, and gradually fled to the south and lived in seclusion in the mountains. As a result, the population of one of the Guluoyue people (hereinafter referred to as "slang people") decreased greatly, and some people boarded Hainan Island by canoe and bamboo raft from Guangdong, Guangdong and northern Vietnam, becoming the earliest residents of Hainan. This is the ancestor of the Li nationality. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the "slang people" of Guangdong and Guangxi in the mainland followed the leader, Mrs. Xian, and moved to Hainan Island on a large scale to join Mrs. Xian's rule. The "Li" in Hainan Island has been called "Li" since the Song Dynasty.

Li nationality is a unique nationality in Hainan, with a population of about1140,000. It is an original resident who came to Hainan Island from the mainland more than 3,000 years ago. Forced by the Han residents who landed on the island in the later period, they retreated from the coastal plain to the mountainous areas in the south-central part of the island.

Because Li people live in mountainous areas, there is little contact between men and women, and poor natural conditions lead to low population reproduction rate. When their children reach the age of 15, their parents will build a thatched cottage for them and provide them with the opportunity to choose the opposite sex freely. Every year after normal labor ends or on the third day of March, young men and women will sing songs in groups on the hillside to find their sweetheart, and then leave in pairs to talk about love.
